IT'S TIME TO RENEW FOR 1997!!! Please get on it and send $10 for yourself and $20 for your organization to:

just fine.
And that's that for that. See you in Prince Albert!

Colleen Zeller(BC) reports that Paul Bagordo (ON) and Tia Shynkaruk (SK) are going to Prince George, BC to do some coach training with Colleen's company. Colleen asked me if I'd advertise her training on the Website. In the past I've advertised coaching job opportunities for no charge, as a service to our members. What do you think about advertising the services that our members offer? Should we do it? Should we charge a fee for doing it? I'd like some feedback on this please.
Cheers,
Rod

I've added two new features to the website, the CALSCA On-Line Magazine, a place for Life Skills related articles and commentary, and Life Skills Links, a collection of Life Skills related links into the Internet. This section includes both Canadian and American sources of Life Skills information. Happy exploring!
At the end of January I requested your opinions about advertising members' services on this website. I've received a lot of feedback, my thanks to you, and everyone in one way or another supports the idea, so here's what I propose:
a resume section where our members can post their resumes as long as their dues ($10.00/calendar year) are paid, and
a business section, where coach trainings and materials can be offered. This last section I think should be contingent upon the business doing the advertising becoming an organizational member of CALSCA, that is, kicking in $20.00/calendar year.
Employment opportunities I think we could include for free.
As an example of how things might look, I've put my resume behind my name on the front page of the website.
So. More feedback?

Good Day CALSCA -
I'm sorry to be telling you that we are putting off our National Conference in Prince Albert until the May long weekend (May 15 - 18) in 1998. Those of us working on it took a look at what we've done and what needs to be done and don't believe that we can pull it off this year in the style that we think it deserves. Our apologies.
In the meantime, we're planning to have a regular style meeting, this year in Saint Albert, AB, just north of Edmonton. Be sure not to confuse Saint Albert AB with Prince Albert SK, or for that matter Prince George BC, or you'll be hitchhiking. We've moved the date to the May long weekend this year to accommodate seat sales, which end May 20.
Here's the info:
Star of the North Retreat
Centre
34 St. Vital Ave.,
St. Albert, Alberta
CALSCA - Annual Meeting
May 16 - 19, 1997 (Long Weekend)
3 nights accommodation (single rooms), 3 meals Saturday, 3 meals Sunday, 2
meals Monday for a mere $136.00. GST included.
Double occupancy will be $230.00 per couple. This is for "BED SHARERS ONLY". There are no rooms with two single beds. This rate includes all meals, coffee & juice for the Significant Other.
The Star of the North Retreat Centre is on a hill in the centre of St. Albert, with a view of the area in winter/spring, and a lot of privacy in the summer when the hedges are in full foliage. (Who knows what season we will be in that weekend?) The Centre is close to a river valley with trails, a live theater/music centre, and 20 minutes from West Edmonton Mall. St. Albert is located 5 minutes North of Edmonton. People traveling in from out of town can be picked up at the airport by any one of a number of hosts/hostesses.
To register email Paula
LET PAULA KNOW IF....: you have any dietary restrictions; you want a single or
double room; would you rather be billeted in a home; you want supper on Friday
evening, available as a tray meal for $5.00 that you heat up when you arrive;
you want to picked up at the airport.
Rod will take care of organizing an agenda, so send suggestions to him if there's something you want to cover at this meeting.

Greetings, friends -

First, welcome to Coaches On The Net:

Has anyone got news of Ron Campbell, Edmonton, AB? His newsletter came back 'moved, address unknown'.
LSCABC's AGM is on Saturday, April 19 at Michael J's Restaurant, Quality Inn, 6542 King George Highway, Surrey, BC from 1 to 5, followed by Eva Rae Kraft speaking on the Structure of Intellect (SOI).
Tia Shynkaruk, SLSA's President, reports:
"Our accreditation process is slowly unfolding and we're taking intern
applications. We have six mentors who have volunteered for the pilot, so things
will be taking off for sure this spring. SLSA is having a general meeting in
Saskatoon on May 3 and we will be discussing what we can realistically provide
for the 1998 Conference. We mailed out information about the CALSCA meeting
last week and hope to see many Saskatchewan coaches at this year's
gathering."
I was recently contacted by Pax Consulting, an American company that had found our Website and added it to its online listings. After looking at the Pax site I returned the favour, so you'll find it as a link in the Life Skills Links page of our Website, which to date has been visited 270 times (not counting my own visits) since August/96.
And that's all folks. See you next month in Saint Albert.
Cheers,
Rod

Here's Stuart Conger's bio, also to be found in the website behind his name in the Upcoming Events page. Stuart, need I remind you, is our Keynote Speaker for the 30th Anniversary Homecoming in Prince Albert next May.
Stu Conger first learned of the concept of Life Skills training at a conference in Washington, DC, in 1966. He instantly loved the idea and later visited the YMCA in the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of New York city where the originators of the dream worked. In 1968 Stu was appointed Executive Director of Saskatchewan NewStart and immediately formed a team to create the first Life Skills training program. Soon, Life Skills training spread to many locations from its Prince Albert home.
Stu left PA for Ottawa in 1974 and was appointed Director-General for Client Support Services in which capacity he was responsible for the professional training of employment counsellors, the development of Job Finding Clubs, the creation of CHOICES - the computer assisted career guidance system, the Work Importance Study, and many other projects.
In 1975 Stu organized the first National Consultation on Career Development ("Natcon") and chaired annual conference until 1986 when he retired from government.
In 1988 he was appointed Executive Director of the Canadian Career Development Foundation (then called the Canadian Guidance and Counselling Foundation) which managed a $20-million program to create new methods of career development for youth.
Stu retired in 1996 and currently works as a private consultant. He is vice president of the International Association for Educational and Vocational Guidance, and a past-president of the Canadian Guidance and Counselling Association.
In May of 1998, Stuart Conger will be the Keynote Speaker at CALSCA's national Homecoming Conference in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
