INTRODUCTION

This Mentors’ Manual is a handbook to guide new Mentors and to provide clarification on different questions that may arise during the accreditation process. You are encouraged to use the journal pages within to record your personal journey in professional development as you assist fellow travelers to achieve personal and professional excellence.

The members of the Saskatchewan Life Skills Association express heartfelt gratitude to the Association of Life Skills Coaches of Ontario for their pioneering work and generously sharing their resources. We acknowledge and appreciate the dedication and persistence required to develop tools such as the Mentor’s Manual and Intern Portfolio. ALSCO admirably models the principle of P.U.T. (Practise - Use - Teach) for the benefit of life skills coaches every where. The manual is based on the condensed contributions of a number of experienced mentors.

We have been having difficulty implementing an accreditation process that suits everyone’s needs in Saskatchewan. Without the help and support of ALSCO and the Alberta Society of Life Skills Coaches, our path would be much longer and more difficult. We look forward to building on this “wheel that’s already been invented” and invite comments and feedback which will provide the universal life skills community with increasingly effective management and evaluative tools.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for Life Skills Coaches in our province. The long-awaited accreditation process is ready to proceed, and we finally have working tools that will help us to ensure the premium quality of Life Skills within Saskatchewan. As part of the Canadian Alliance of Life Skills Coaches and Associations network, we too are “committed to the belief that all individuals are entitled to learn the Life Skills necessary for personal and social development. We support and promote professional excellence in Life Skills Coaching - personally, regionally, and nationally.”
