THE MENTOR’S JOURNAL

return to MENTORS' MANUAL Table of Contents

The Mentor’s Journal is included in this manual to provide you with an interactive component. It is hoped this journal will provide you with a valuable source of information through a record of your experiences, thoughts, and feelings. It can become a resource to help increase your ability to assist Interns in the future.

In the mentoring process, you too are a learner. Keeping a journal is one way you can increase your skills and grow as a Mentor. Other learning opportunities for you might include:

  • attending/providing mentoring training;
  • joining the Accreditation Committee;
  • using this manual and suggesting changes;
  • experiencing the process of Internship and accreditation;
  • mentoring someone else through the process;
  • reading/researching more about mentoring.

There follows a list of possible assessment strategies, the Life Skills Coach Knowledge and Competency Summary and some blank pages. They are provided so you can record the observation and assessment strategies used to evaluate an Intern’s command of various skills and competencies, You might also describe your reactions and write new ideas. The pages (ed. note: in the printed manual) are blank so you can use them creatively!!
