ACCREDITATION:
the recognition by SLSA of an Intern having fulfilled the necessary requirements of Life
Skills Coach, Mentor, or TrainerACCREDITATION
COMMITTEE:
a group of SLSA members whose responsibility it is to evaluate fulfillment of
accreditation requirements and to recommend the granting of Awards of Accreditation, as
well as hear cases of dispute and/or appeal
ACCREDITATION CO-ORDINATOR:
an individual who is responsible for administering and tracking the SLSA accreditation
process
APPLICANT:
a person who makes contact with SLSA, wishing to be considered as an Intern
COACH, LIFE SKILLS:
accredited by SLSA as having completed the following requirements:
- 500 hours of coaching experience over at least one year with a
minimum of two different client groups
- acquisition of all 78 skills listed in the Competency Log
- approval by the Accreditation Committee to receive the Life
Skills Coach Award of Accreditation
COMPETENCY LOG:
documentation of skills and knowledge acquired through training and experience
EXECUTIVE, SLSA:
a four member committee (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer) voted in by the
general membership who are jointly responsible for the management of the Association
according to the constitution
INTERN:
a Life Skills Coach who is participating in the accreditation process
LIFE SKILLS:
as defined by Saskatchewan NewStart: problem-solving behaviours applied
appropriately and responsibly to the management of ones own life
MENTOR:
a SLSA member recognized as an aid to an Intern who wishes to become accredited (not
necessarily the Interns direct employment supervisor)
MENTORING CIRCLES:
a group of Interns and Mentors who are actively participating in the accreditation process
within SLSAs four regional zones: Northeast, Northwest, Central and South
PORTFOLIO:
an Interns record of progress, consisting of a Coaching Hours Recording Sheet, a
Competency Log, and Competency Summary (a significant document in the accreditation
process as well as a useful tool for future use with employers, colleagues, etc.)
SLSA:
the Saskatchewan Life Skills Association (the provincial body which confers the titles
Life Skills Coach, Life Skills Mentor, and Life Skills
Trainer)
SUPERVISOR, FIELD:
an individual who is in the position to directly evaluate the skills of an intern in
the field (not necessarily a member of SLSA and not necessarily engaged in Life
Skills) and to offer assistance to the Intern in the acquisition of needed skills
TRAINER, LIFE SKILLS COACH:
recognized by SLSA as a trainer of Life Skills Coaches
TRAINING PLAN:
a plan which may be created jointly by the Intern and Mentor in order that needed skills
are acquired for accreditation
