This model offers accreditation based on the assumption Life Skills coaches have the skills in place (arising from their training) to successfully direct their own assessments and accreditation.

Accreditation as a Life Skills coach recognized by the LSCABC requires the following:

Part 1
TRAINING

A) Proof of certification by a registered private or public training institution or college
B) Submission of course curriculum verifying training in Saskatchewan NewStart Life Skills
C) Letter from training institute verifying minimum training of 500 hours.

Part 2
PEER ASSESSMENT

A) Letters of reference from two accredited Life Skills coaches who have visited group for a minimum of 6 hours each and can verify:

I) reasons why he/she qualifies for accreditation
II) what he/she is doing to maintain the credibility of the profession
III) areas in which skill development needs attention. This would be based on student feedback and a fair assessment of one's own group participation.

Considerations:

This model assumes that coaches will monitor their own progress and seek out added or extended training when needed. Finally, this model assumes coaches will continue to be involved with their peers and will give and receive feedback as needed. As such it also assumes coaches will speak directly to each other if they perceive a colleague or classmate is getting into difficulty in his/her groups.

This model is:
- flexible
- Non-threatening
- Inexpensive
- Challenges each individual to live up to coaching standards and internally monitor his/her behaviour.
