Alberta Association of Professional
Life Skills Coaches Newsletter
Newsletter 2006
Brought to you by Public Relations
Committee
Dear Members,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas Season with your family
and friends. We’ve had a busy and productive year with the Board purchasing a
CALSCA membership to utilize the services on their website to communicate to
our Membership; we do have a few things to work out; however it is a great
start! We completed a questionnaire which helped us redefine our Goals for the
year. We revised our Mission, Objectives and Definition and also added a Vision
Statement. The Professional Development Committee offered three social events
in 2005 with one cancellation due to lack of commitment.
With regret, we didn’t get a committee
together to produce a Newsletter in 2005. With much confidence, I hope to
acquire a few people committed to producing a Newsletter via email. I hope
everyone will enjoy this new format of ‘The Coach Communicator”!
Looking to the future; The AAPLSC board we
will continue to move forward, to offer meaningful opportunities to our
membership.

President

“Performance Centered
Counseling”, by Beverley Walters
Performance Centered Counseling
Uses the problem solving model to guide a client
through the stages of informed decision making that leads to action and
accountability for that action.
The basic skill employed by the counselor is
"questioning".
·
The
counselor uses questions to clarify the situation the client is in
·
Questions
are posed to inquire about "what" action the client wants to take to
change his/er situation and
"how" that action might be
implemented.
·
Using
questions, the counselor guides the client to identify the who, what, where,
when and how
of potential solutions and consequences of
those solutions.
This workshop will explore:
The objectives of counseling
The responsibility of counselor and client
The benefits of using and educational model of
counseling versus a therapeutic model
Additional Resources:
The assessment tool "From Crisis to Thriving"
will be introduced and distributed.
Workshop weekend: "Ethical Decision Making"

Websites to Visit when looking
for Jobs, submitted by Leslie Pierson
This is a link to the non-profit
neighborhood of Charity Village. They have jobs listed in non-profit. I
consider it to be a good reference. http://www.charityvillage.com/cv/nonpr/index.asp
Another I use is http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/Search_en.asp?ProvId=09&Student=false and
then type in "administrative" and some positions for care
workers come up. e.g. URSA, Salvation Army, etc.
Here is Aventa's website. http://www.aventa.org/careeropportunities.html
I spoke with an AADAC counselor
contact last week and AADAC is considering a Life Skills Program, as
well. Some members may want to start submitting proposals to them.
