We welcome five more members in good standing (meaning that they have paid their $10 registration fee) to the national organization. Dana Richardson - NB, Vi Andersen - BC and Colleen Zeller - BC, Dorothy Harvey - ON, Dori Britski - SK, and Gary Copeland - NB. NatNet/NetNat has 26 members of whom 17 are in good standing. Our financial revenues are currently supporting our activities with a small cushion for extras. Thanks to everyone who has expressed support through phone calls, letters and through registration. I get a very positive feeling about the direction of our organization. Spread the work and let me know if I can direct sample newsletters to anyone.
Colleen Zeller, formerly from Sask, is now on the moon (her words), that is, she has relocated to Prince George, BC. She reports that, in that part of the country, Life Skills workers are similar to attendants who teach mainly living skills. Although she is 800 km. away from the nearest coach, she is determined to have an impact on the way Life Skills is presented in Prince George. From the looks of her resume, Colleen has diverse expertise and extensive experience to share with coaches there. Please welcome them to the association and share this newsletter with them, Colleen. Good luck.
Vi Andersen, formerly Ontario, now of BC and temporarily on a work permit in Ontario writes that the focus of the BC Association to date has been on fundraising, considering the importance of Accreditation to its members and increasing the membership. They plan a Casino night in the near future. Pleeeeease (she asks).... forward any ideas other associations may have for increasing membership and benefiting "Life Skills" Coaches throughout BC. Sounds like Colleen and Vi have similar goals and need to meet. The Annual General Meeting of the LSCABC will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 1994 at a time and place to be established.
Rod Paynter, a founding member of the national association has moved to Vernon, BC .
You can't keep a woman like Dori in the back rows for long. After 7 hours of surgery in Sept., everything is back on track with Dori up front again since the first of January. According to her last letter, everything is OK, including her wonderful personality by the sounds of it.
The project of the SLSA will be the conference to be held Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, 1994 at Jackfish Lodge, a 20 minute drive north of North Battleford. More details to follow.
ALSCO will sponsor the 15th annual conference at Geneva Park, Ontario form June 15 to 18. Your editor will be keynote speaker this year, but since attendance at that is not mandatory, don't let that keep you away. Indeed, if you have anything brilliant to say about Balance, please forward it ASAP. More details on the conference in the next newsletter.
And by the way...
The Ontario association has restructured around eight committees: conference, newsletter, finance, accreditation, marketing and PR, national and education. Different members are working on each one with one person taking primary responsibility for activities for the year. General goals have been outlined, but throughout the year the committee will decide their own direction. Stay tuned to see how this unfolds.
Tomorrow, I'm going to visit an adult education centre where they are using a Pathfinder's computer program to teach many things that we do in Life Skills. I now know three programs employing coaches to supervise these computer activities.
The Cross Cultural Centre in London, ON has produced three videos with supporting curriculum material, especially for clients who are new to Canada. If further info. is required, please contact me. I would be willing to try and arrange a viewing for the Ontario conference if interested.
