Thanks to Judy Moynes, a member in Ontario, I have in front
of me 6 different styles combining the map and heading produced by her computer. Look for
a different style each time and if other members would like to submit possibilities--those
of you who like to play--please feel free. It must be obvious by now that I have limited
talents for layout and design.
Janice Newton, a member of the association in Quebec, has submitted a flyer that they use for "official publicity in Quebec". She's excited about it and so am I. That's why I've reproduced it for this issue. Has anyone else done this? At a recent coaches' meeting in Southwestern Ontario, we realized that there was little understanding about Life Skills and what it is. Mouth to mouth contact is inadequate, there are too many of us at this point and we need information circulating constantly. Perhaps other associations would like to pick up the idea. Their address is on the flyer.
How does your organization raise money?
Editor: Perhaps you could all send your responses in to me and I could do an issue on raising funds. Could you let me know your membership fees, conference fees, any fundraising projects you do and also any funding you receive privately or from a government source. Good question, Rod. We're working on it.
Dori Britski from the association in Sask. sent me a list of the workshops for the above in September, but it was late for the newsletter. Some of the titles were "The Laugh's on Me", "Art Therapy", "Creating Spiritual Healing Through Coaching", "Designing your Future", and "Mask Making". I thought it may provide some ideas for your professional development and training. If you want to follow this up, please contact Dori or me.
Rod writes that "A clearinghouse functions as an exchange point for goods and services, charging either a set fee or a percentage of profits, sometimes both, in return for maintaining the facility".
Now, this idea will not go to bed. Just by chance, I met a man who is organizing a self-help clearinghouse in Toronto. A major part of his work at this stage is to help those who would like to start a self-help group, to organize information and themselves into a successful resource. They are usually non-profit which we are not but in fact our associations are non-profit, especially NatNet/NetNat. Do we fit it? He suggested that some of you may be interested in the service that supports new self-help initiatives. He does mailouts across Canada. Please contact Al Strong at 40 Orchard View Blvd., Suite 219, Toronto, M4R 1B9 and ask for a needs assessment questionnaire. It is too long for me to include it. Ask him for a newsletter too.
It occurs to me that this may be a good direction for NatNet/NetNat and that we may want to pursue it.
At the Ontario conference held in June, 1993, I think we agreed that everybody would cough up $10 for publication charges for an individual for the year. That will take you up to June 1994. An organizational membership will be $20. Please remit by cheque or cash as soon as possible. I'll start up bank account for the purpose that can be transferred easily. As an extra perk, if you want some special information done in a separate mailing, I am quite happy to do so, but please have your organization mail a cheque for $20 to cover costs.
I have had Donna Hall type up 340 labels for mailing purposes at a cost to the national alliance of $10.20. As this is an expense, it will come out of the funds. Hope that's ok.
Publication dates: This is hard because when I get info. from you, I get so excited I want to contact every one of you. However, I am working on every two months, so January 10, Mar. 10 and May 10, just before the conference.
Thanks so much for your support and questions. I love every
minute of this job. My vision for the future includes a strong national network of coaches
and some day, mentors. Keep in touch. There is momentum at work here. Let's keep it going.
